Attilio Mazza and Gardone Riviera: a connection for sustainable tourism

An important meeting dedicated to Attilio Mazza, a prominent figure in the culture of Lake Garda, will take place on Friday, September 12, at 5 PM at the Hotel Savoy. The event, titled “Attilio Mazza and Lake Garda: History, Memory, Landscape (1935–2015),” will feature the participation of Mayor Adelio Zeni and Professor Giovanni Gregorini from the Catholic University. Among the speakers will also be Elena Ledda, president of the National Center for D’Annunzio Studies, Pierlucio Ceresa, Secretary General of the Garda Community, and journalist Massimo Tedeschi. The conclusions will be drawn by Oliviero Mazza, the author’s son.

Mazza, born in Gavardo in 1935 and an adopted son of Garda, was an tireless promoter of sustainable tourism in his community, passionately documenting the tourism development of the village and its historical splendor. His civic engagement led him to hold significant political roles, including that of mayor from 1989 to 1991. His body of work comprises 278 titles and is marked by an early warning about the issues related to mass tourism. His cultural legacy continues to be celebrated and studied as a beacon for future generations committed to preserving the local landscape’s beauty.
