Lombardy and Climate Law: A Model of Environmental Sustainability
The Lombardy Climate Law was officially presented during the Climate Week in New York, an event that brings together experts and world leaders to tackle the challenges posed by climate change. The regional councilor for Environment and Climate, Giorgio Maione, emphasized the significance of this legislation, the first of its kind in Italy, which was approved by the Regional Council on July 8. During his speech, Maione highlighted how the law represents a significant step towards increasingly environmentally sustainable development, with planned investments of 19 billion euros over the next five years aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality. Additionally, the councilor participated in various international meetings to promote effective strategies in the fight against climate change, including the ‘Under2 Coalition’ summit and a session with members of the global network ‘Regions4’. Maione reiterated that Lombardy aims to be a winning model in sustainable development and technological innovation, demonstrating a concrete commitment to achieving net-zero emissions goals.
