Plant health intervention in Salò for sick horse chestnuts
A phytosanitary intervention has been planned in Salò to address the compromised health of the horse chestnuts in the Fossa, located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. In recent years, favorable climate conditions have led to the spread of two pathogens: Cameraria ohridella, a moth that causes leaf drying, and Guignardia aesculi, a fungus responsible for anthracnose. Despite daily efforts to collect infested leaves, a more structured intervention has become necessary to preserve the vitality of the trees. The Municipality has organized a series of targeted treatments for the trunks, foliage, and root systems of the horse chestnuts. These treatments will utilize natural substances such as beneficial microorganisms and plant extracts to strengthen the plants’ defenses and enhance their resistance to pest attacks. The care program will continue until 2025 and part of 2026, with the aim of improving the overall health of the horse chestnuts and ensuring the landscape value of the Fossa, which is essential for the local community.
