The Municipality of Sirmione, in collaboration with Sirmione Servizi, has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable future with the inauguration of the Reuse Island. This project, developed in partnership with the Cauto Social Cooperative, aims to reduce waste production, give value to unused items, and actively promote the circular and social economy in the area. The initiative allows residents to donate goods in good condition, such as furniture, books, toys, and home accessories, which will undergo a process of selection, restoration, and reintroduction into the usage cycle. The primary goal is to demonstrate that reuse is a tangible and everyday practice that brings both environmental and community benefits. Institutional Commitment to Sustainability The opening of the Reuse Island aligns with the sustainability priorities pursued by the municipal administration. The Mayor of Sirmione, Luisa Lavelli, emphasized that the initiative is “a concrete way to care for our territory, but also to engage the community in working together towards a better future for everyone.” The Councilor for the Environment, Miria Bocchio, highlighted that reuse was one of the points in the electoral program, and its implementation just over a year into the mandate represents “a tangible proof of the commitment to work for a Municipality increasingly attentive to sustainability and environmental issues, where the circular economy becomes a daily practice.” Waste Reduction and Resource Valorization The fundamental principle of the project is that every recovered item represents “one less waste, one less consumption of raw materials, energy, and water.” Reducing waste means preventing waste and valuing resources. The Sole Administrator of Sirmione Servizi, Valentina Raimondi, emphasized that the crucial objective is waste reduction, primarily achievable through reuse. The administration and Sirmione Servizi provide the tools and projects, while citizens are called to become active protagonists in this shared challenge. The philosophy is that “nothing should be thrown away: everything can be reintegrated, to the benefit of all.” Social Value and Inclusion Through Work In addition to environmental benefits, the Reuse Island brings significant social value to the territory. Collaboration with the Cauto Cooperative supports three fundamental pillars: Inclusion and Work: The project includes activities such as selection, cleaning, repair, and setup, providing job opportunities especially for individuals in vulnerable situations. Civic Participation: Every resident is invited to actively contribute, potentially becoming a protagonist of local sustainability. Valorization of the Common Good: The initiative strengthens the sense of community, promoting a culture based on reuse and solidarity. The official inauguration took place on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the Ecological Island of the Municipality of Sirmione. The event was attended by Mayor Luisa Lavelli, Deputy Mayor Maurizio Ferrari, Environment Councilor Bocchio, Sole Administrator Valentina Raimondi, and members of Sirmione Servizi and Cauto, the social cooperative.
