Malcesine and the Garda Cycle Path: Environmental Impacts Under Scrutiny
Recent developments in Malcesine have raised significant concerns regarding the environmental impacts of the new Garda cycle path, particularly the section leading to the tunnel in the Baitone area, near the Trentino border. The interregional coordination for the protection of Lake Garda has expressed strong criticisms of the project, highlighting how the cycling route abruptly ends at the tunnel’s exit, forcing pedestrians and cyclists to turn back. This situation has been described sarcastically by the Coordination, which represents various environmental associations, including WWF and Legambiente. In addition to the issues related to the usability of the path, environmentalists are denouncing irreversible damage to the local flora and fauna caused by construction work. According to them, the natural beauty of the area is gradually giving way to metal and concrete structures intended for tourism. In response to these concerns, the Coordination has announced a new complaint to the Court of Auditors to contest the interventions carried out in the Trentino section of the Ponale. Their position is clear: they will continue to fight against what they consider a threat to the local environment. Italian Version
