Lugana DOC Recognized in 44th Michelin Guide for Top Italian Wines
With its 44th edition, on sale for a few days now, the legendary Guida Rossa Italia by Michelin also includes Lugana DOC on the map of Italy’s most important wines.
Inclusion of Lugana DOC in the Michelin Guide
This inclusion is no coincidence, as the Lugana DOC has long been highly appreciated worldwide — for centuries by popes and kings alike — recognizing the ongoing and steady professionalism of the producers of this marvelous nectar of Bacchus, produced on the shores of Lake Garda.
It is impossible to talk about a single Italian national cuisine; however, there exists a very rich regional cuisine. To aid your choice — writes the Michelin Guide in its introductions — in the map below, we have indicated next to each region the most renowned dishes, those easiest to find, and the best-known wines; we leave it to restaurateurs to highlight their characteristics.
Foods and wines from the same region often make a good pairing.
Regional wines of Lombardy
And so, among Lombardy’s regional wines, Lugana appears among the three recommended white wines, followed by three red wines and two sparkling wines.
Overall, the Italian wines listed by the Guida Rossa Michelin for all Italy number 114, including, from this edition, Lugana DOC.
The value of the Michelin Guide
Talking about and praising this Guide, a pioneer among all sector-specific guides for hospitality and fine dining, I believe is no longer necessary given its notoriety acquired over more than forty years worldwide.
It is, however, imperative to remember that the current edition features 4,125 hotels and 3,365 restaurants, selected with absolute seriousness and professionalism by industry experts.
In this edition, 598 venues have been removed, while 516 new entries have been added.
Recognition for Italian gastronomy
Regarding dining, the venues worthy of receiving the legendary, coveted, and highly sought-after three stars are only 3 in Italy; 16 establishments have two stars, and 206 have one star.
One of these stars — which in the Guide terminology signifies excellent cuisine — accompanied by two forks (indicating good comfort), shines at the Vecchia Lugana in Lugana di Sirmione.
Starred tables in Lugana
It is worth noting that among the three-star venues, Lugana DOC is certainly represented at Dal Pescatore in Canneto sull’Oglio, which offers typical dishes such as steamed pike with parsley, anchovies, capers, and extra virgin olive oil, or carpione-style tench and small fish with a touch of orange aroma.
