City Council Approves 2000 Budget, Projects, and Infrastructure Plans

The budget forecast for the year 2000, the multi-year forecast report, and the multi-year budget were approved, in the last City Council, with the sole vote in favor of the majority.

Among the projects planned by the administration are maintenance works and others, involving the aqueduct and public lighting; the renovation of areas designated for green spaces and parking lots, according to the provisions of the current Prg (Piano Regolatore Generale); the removal of architectural barriers; the purchase of land for the construction of the new elementary school in the town center; and an agreement with neighboring municipalities for the creation of an animal shelter in the Broglio area.

Opposition Opinions

The opposition councilor Giovanni Gallizioli voted against the program, citing “the repetitiveness, over the years, of many items, so I don’t believe in the administration’s intent to implement the projects. You took a walk by the lake spending twice what was necessary, and for the schools, after many discussions, we are still at square one.”

Antonio Invidia, another opposition representative, explained his negative vote “because certain interventions for citizens, such as those concerning the aqueduct and sewer network, should have been considered earlier. We were already skeptical about the idea of renovating the current elementary school headquarters. Now, they are talking about buying land to build them entirely new: it doesn’t seem like a credible attitude.”

The vote took place without any reply from the majority.

Approvals

The Council unanimously approved, among others, the Riello residential subdivision plan; the sale of the municipal land included in the “Razzoli” subdivision; the changes to the criteria for applying administrative sanctions for municipal taxes; and the confirmation of the water quota for the year 2000.

The inter-municipal implementation plan for the realization of the Golf Club Villa Paradiso, which will be built on an area of over five hundred thousand square meters between the municipalities of Peschiera and Casteinuovo, was also approved.

The abolition of the Tosap tax and the establishment, in its place, of the occupation tax for public spaces and areas, along with the related regulation, was approved with the abstention of Counselor Gallizioli. Several abstentions also occurred among majority councilors regarding the vote on the waste collection tax adjustment for private homes and campsites: the former increased from 1,410 lire per m² to 1,300 lire, while the camping pitches’ tariff was raised from 800 lire per m² to 1,300 lire. A small reduction, from 4,240 lire to 4,200 lire, was adopted for professional offices as well.

The budget counselor explained the increased fee for campsites, highlighting that during the six months of tourist influx, the percentage of waste separation decreases, demonstrating the residents’ greater correctness.
