Relocation of School Power Cabinet Aims to Reduce Electromagnetic Pollution

Road signs warn that today in via Lutti the first works will begin to relocate the medium-low voltage electrical transformation cabinet, currently located in the basement of the “Andrea Maffei” high school.

It will be moved outside at a suitable distance from the school and other residences. “An excavation must be carried out – clarified the public works councilor Pietro Matteotti – for the installation of the structure, which has been ordered for some time. The work is expected to be completed by the end of February.

The relocation will be carried out at the expense of Ags, and therefore the Municipality. The cost of the operation is estimated at around 120-150 million lire.

Electromagnetic pollution issues

The issue had been raised through various protests by students themselves, and after some inspections, technicians confirmed that the pollution caused by electromagnetic sources and the magnetic induction values exceeded 10 microTesla (uT) at floor level.

This is a value below the risk limit established by current regulations, which is 100 uT. However, a new draft law, based on recent scientific studies, sets the safety limit at 0.2 uT.
