Debate Over Sports Center Construction Sparks Local Controversy

Will the new sports center be built or not? According to deputy mayor Alessandro Mattinzoli, yes. However, it cannot be located near the school complex for a simple reason: there would be too much congestion in an already crowded area with schools and offices.

Project status and controversies

The project inherited from the previous Arduino administration has been shelved. This has sparked some controversy from the opposition.

“We fully intend to build the gymnasium,” assured Mattinzoli, “but the approach of the previous administration was not appropriate; the project was deemed unsuitable.”

Also, Giordano Signori, the Budget assessor, has his say on the matter.

“The gymnasium also did not have funding allocated in the budget because the 600 million lire referred to a loan to be requested, not to an already established financing: it was only a proposal to access the amount through a loan.”

Opinions and timelines

In contrast, Carlo Cosare (former majority councilor under the Arduino administration) recalled that the sports center would be built soon, with regular financing in place.

However, the structure will not be built shortly; it will surely take several more years: the project is missing, and everything else as well.
