Expo Riva Schuh Faces Threats as Bologna Fiere Targets Key Trade Fair
“We will stay in Riva forever,” said Friederich Eichholz, dean and spokesperson of the exhibitors participating in Expo Riva Schuh, a month and a half ago. However, his promise is at risk. Not due to the intentions of the friendly German president, but because Bologna and the association representing shoe manufacturers nationwide are launching yet another attack on the Riva event. The Ballerà, the Palacongressi, and everything surrounding them have little meaning without Expo Schuh.
“It is the premier fair, the most important, the one that puts Riva’s name on the map worldwide and attracts 850 exhibitors (i.e., thousands of operators) twice a year. An economic impact worth billions. An appealing opportunity also for Bologna Fiere, which in the past (like Verona) attempted to absorb Expo. A new attempt,” admitted sources at Palacongressi, “began a few weeks ago.”
Reactions and Threats
Strange articles appeared in the national economic press, to which Palacongressi responded appropriately. But the attack continues and, as director Righi states, “it is not excluded that we will have to use extreme measures if the assault on Expo Schuh persists.” This was also discussed yesterday at the Palazzo dei Congressi. The company’s council, along with the administrators of Lido and the Riva council, met with members of the two permanent legislative commissions of the Provincial Council.
A courtesy visit, in response to a previous invitation from Palacongressi president Gianni Zontini. The perfect opportunity to acknowledge what Riva has become, with the recent opening of the second pavilion at Ballerà. At the summit, the two presidents of the Trentino committees, Nerio Giovanazzi and Mauro Delladio, along with a large number of councilors, attended.
Also present were Mayor Malossini, and Presidents Zontini, Malfer (Lido), and Miorelli (Garda Trentino Sviluppo). The councilors also visited the pavilions at Ballerà and — as stated in an official communiqué — “took note of the issues raised by the Riva administrators.” Palacongressi hopes so: “If the maneuvers we are undertaking in the trade fair market continue,” commented Dr. Righi, “we will need everyone’s help, the support of the territory, especially the Province…”
