Pasini Produttori Chiaretto Wins 2000 Confraternita Award

While the Palio del Chiaretto is taking place in Moniga, in Padenghe, at the Locanda Santa Giulia, the Castellani del Chiaretto have previously selected the three best Chiarettos of the 1999 harvest: Pasini Produttori, Cà Grande, and Due Pini.

Of the three chosen, the Chiaretto that received the highest score was that from Pasini in Raffa di Puegnago, which was consequently elected the Chiaretto of the Confraternita dei Castellani for the year 2000, with the privilege of being the official Chiaretto that will accompany all the food and wine events of the current social season.

This is a very satisfying result for the Pasini brothers, who see their product awarded and especially chosen among 18 samples presented at the traditional annual selection, which has been held for over twenty years.

History and Characteristics of Chiaretto

The wine of a night,” as it is commonly called, because its maturation takes place in the middle of the night. This exceptional product, which saw its first experiments precisely in Valtenesi, and more specifically in Moniga del Garda, conducted by the Venetian senator Pompeo Molmenti. However, recently discovered documents confirm that “claret” was being produced on the shores of Garda many years before Molmenti’s experiments.

This wine, which has gained increasing appreciation in recent years, is made from Sangiovese, Groppello, Marzemino, and Barbera grapes. Light in color, hence the name, with a fragrance of flowers and fruit, and an extraordinary salinity, it should be served very cold at a temperature between 10 and 12 °C.

Excellent with first courses and white meats, it also pairs well with fish (see the review of coregone and lake fish) and desserts.
