Spring Events and Cultural Festivities in Garda and Surroundings
Numerous events, concerts, and spring festivals energize Garda during the long end-of-April holiday. TODAY, Friday, in the parish church of Bardolino dedicated to Saints Severo and Nicolò, at 8:45 PM, there will be a concert by the Warwickshire String Orchestra conducted by Maestro Michael Williamson, while in Sirmione, in the church of San Pietro in Mavino, an exhibition titled «The Sacred Art of the Icon: Encounter with Beauty» is open until May 1st. About forty contemporary icons from the Iconography School of the Abbey of Maguzzano, works by Giovanni Mezzalira, are on display. Sister Paola dello Spirito Santo and Silvana Bassetto are exhibiting with hours 10 AM/12 PM and 3 PM/5:30 PM.
Provincial and Cultural Events
The four-day series of events celebrating the anniversary of the Carica begins in Pastrengo (see article on this page), while Riva hosts a five-day international mountain biking event, the seventh Bike Festival.
TOMORROW, there will be a classical music concert at Malcesine, Palazzo Capitani, at 9 PM, with an entrance fee of 10,000 lire. Performers include the duo Massimo Pasi (flute) and Egidio Collini (guitar). Meanwhile, in Bardolino at 9 PM, the Bardolino Philharmonic will perform a spiritual concert. A themed religious show will take place at 9 PM in the parish church of Cavaion, featuring a voice-guitar duo, Alessandro De Negri and Michela Cordioli: alternating recitatives accompanied by guitar; texts by Don Ferdinando Rancan.
There will be two events in Caprino at Palazzo Carlotti: at 4 PM, a didactic workshop (experiences in pictorial composition), and at 5 PM, the official presentation of the proceedings from the conference on «Science, Technology, and the Public Good in the Work of Giovanni Arduino», held in Verona in February 1996.
In Piazza Arilicense in Peschiera, three days of an art exhibition of local painters under the theme «Visions of Peschiera» will take place, while in Pastrengo, starting at 10 AM, a commemorative ceremony for the Carabinieri will be held, followed by the inauguration of the national painting competition «La Carica»; in the afternoon, a procession in carriage, popular and folkloric songs in the historic courtyards, and in the evening, a dialect comedy by Roberto Puliero’s company.
The municipal casino of Arco continues hosting the European Bonsai Association Congress 2000 until May 1st, a conference on science and technique, along with a bonsai exhibition, and a horticultural market display at the public gardens.
Sunday and Holiday Events
SUNDAY at the Castello Scaligero theater in Malcesine, at 9 PM, a free accordion concert will be held, while in Peschiera, at the same hour, in the hall dedicated to Paolo VI, «May Concerts» organized by the Local Musical Academy. Opening the season, a celebration at the Lazise Wave-based Nautical Base (new port) at 11 AM with the presentation of the program and social boats, along with a «blue of blue» welcome cocktail and festivities. A spring walk (from 9 AM to 1 PM) on Monte Belpo, promoted by the WWF of Caprino.
May Day Festivities and Sports
MONDAY, MAY 1ST, marks the last day of the «Festival of Flowers» at Castellare Lagusello, also offering the opportunity to visit the natural reserve and the permanent exhibition showcasing the most significant natural features. Starting at 9:30 AM, a round table titled «Itineraries of Cultural Heritage in the Garda Area» will gather representatives from the provinces of Mantova, Brescia, Verona, with Adelio Zanelli, president of the Garda Community, and scholars from the region.
In Riva, closing the seventh Bike Festival at the former bus station square, the Warstenner Bike Marathon will take place. Meanwhile, in Pastrengo, a day dedicated to sports features a hill race and cycling race for the 22nd Trofeo Carica di Pastrengo.
