Gardonese Air Group Celebrates 30 Years of Civic and Humanitarian Initiatives

The Gardonese Nucleus of the Associazione arma aeronautica is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. Throughout these thirty years, the Gardone Aviators have distinguished themselves through commendable social and civic commitment, promoting an endless list of humanitarian and charitable initiatives. The significant milestone will be commemorated with official events. The highlight will be a philatelic cancellation of a commemorative stamp, scheduled for September 10th, marking the anniversary of D’Annunzio’s march and his Arditi on Fiume (September 12, 1919). Mario Senti, the leader and founder of the Gardonese Nucleus of the Associazione d’arma, will be unveiling the stamp in these days, initially reproduced in 100 silver pieces.

The official celebration of the group’s thirtieth anniversary will take place on December 10th. The story begins at the end of the 1960s. “It’s been 32 years since, in the distant 1968,” says Mario Senti, “I took on the task of bringing the Blue Flag to Gardone Riviera, although my official role began only on September 6, 1970. The initial difficulties were many, but luck was on my side. One day at the Vittoriale, I met General Angelo Mastragostino of the Air Force, who was also a regional councilor of the association and a Fiuman legionary with the poet and former fighter of the 6th Stormo di Ghedi. General Mastragostino’s support materialized when, after submitting the formalities for the establishment of the Nucleus in Rome and while waiting to proceed officially, our group of Aviators was merged with the Desenzano section.”

History and Activities of the Group

The Gardonese Nucleus later became an official and, above all, operational entity. “Many years have passed since then,” continues Senti, “and many, many initiatives have been carried out by our group, thanks also to the technical and economic collaboration of numerous citizens to whom I feel compelled to extend my sincerest gratitude. I especially remember my friend and affectionate councilor Antonio Paredi from Lavenone. And I remember, above all, those who—often without seeking recognition—supported and helped me with my proposals, which over the years led to cultural excursions, gatherings, the establishment of the Salò Aeronautical Section, and the promotion of humanitarian and social aid.”
