Asparagus Festival Boosts Local Agriculture and Winemaking

With thirty-two years of history, the “Asparagus Festival”, which runs from today until Monday, remains one of the leading promotional events for this product in the province. Over the years, the event has gained particular importance, especially with the “Golden Asparagus” contest, which is complemented by the Bardolino classic wine competition and the Garda DOP extra virgin olive oil contest.

These products find space and are showcased within the context of the producer’s fair-market, featuring exhibitions, tastings, and the popular “S. Michele d’oro” contest, organized by the Pro loco and the Municipal Administration.

Events and activities during the four days

This four-day event primarily focuses on eno-gastronomic entertainment, with restaurants, trattorias, agritourisms, and wineries from a broad territory located between Garda and Adige, including part of the Garda Morainic Hills, Monte Moscai, and the Tasso Valley.

This area is increasingly industrialized, yet agriculture retains significant importance, especially for the cultivation of vines and olives, within which the asparagus holds a noteworthy space of quality.

Festival program

The program, supported by the Azienda di promozione Riviera degli olivi, begins today at 19:00 with the opening of stands dedicated to traditional dishes based on asparagus and boiled eggs.

Before the music starts (at 21:00 with Music Time), the presentation of the “Davide Giacomelli” contest will take place in the parish hall.

Tomorrow’s schedule

The festival heats up tomorrow: at 10:00, the comedy “The Selfish Giant” will be performed at the Teatro Arena Torcolo; at 18:00, the reopening of stands and guided tastings of wine until 20:00; at 19:30, a karate demonstration and Scaligera pre-acrobatics with students from Cavaion, followed at 21:00 by ballroom dancing with the “Daniela Barbieri” show orchestra.

Schedule for Sunday

Activities begin with the “Caminada tra le sparasare”, a ten-kilometer free-paced walk; at 10:00, stands will open, followed by the departure (at 11:45) of a group of cyclists heading to CavailIbn, a sister town in France.

In the evening, there will be performances by majorettes and the award ceremony for the winners of the three contests, ending the night with ballroom dancing.

Conclusion and other activities

On Monday, the event concludes with a special evening, which offers, throughout the four days: a funfair, rally car exhibition, and a Sunday visit to the archaeological museum.
