Desenzano Hospitals Score Over 90% Satisfaction in Verona University Study

The overall judgment of users at the six hospitals that make up the healthcare structure of the Azienda di Desenzano is good, indeed excellent. This is confirmed by a scientific study conducted by a team from the Università degli Studi di Verona, led by Professor Giuseppe Favretto, commissioned, of course, by the Ospedaliera Azienda itself.

The survey lasted five months, from December to the end of April. The data and responses collected involved 1,025 patients who filled out a long questionnaire aimed at assessing the satisfaction index of the service itself.

The analysis and drafting of the results were carried out by the Centro docimologico dell’Università di Verona, which analyzed all the responses given. And these were considered, to say the least, highly flattering.

Satisfaction percentages and comments

Essentially, according to the Azienda sanitaria di Desenzano, over 90 percent of citizens broadly consider the activity of the Ospedaliera Azienda satisfactory, and even 85 percent of users provided a highly positive evaluation of the services offered, with scores ranging from 7.5 to 10 to express the overall satisfaction level on a scale from 1 to 10, similar to a school grading system.

The average satisfaction score ranges from 8.4 to 9.1 across the three central moments of the service, namely admission, hospitalization, and discharge.

“I am satisfied,” comments the general director of the Azienda, Dr. Angelo Foschini. “It is our clear commitment to confirm the efficiency of the structures and do everything possible to further improve the services.”

Information on the served population and structure

The users’ feedback pertains to healthcare facilities serving about one-third of the citizens of Brescia. Indeed, the Azienda ospedaliera di Desenzano covers a population of approximately 307,246 residents, previously served by the dissolved Usl 17 of Salò and 19 of Leno.

The hospitals involved are six in total, two per facility: Desenzano and Lonato, Gavardo and Salò, and Manerbio and Leno. The administrative headquarters is located in Desenzano, with administrative operations in Leno and Salò.

Altogether, there are 40 divisions, including four services plus the day hospital. The staff currently numbers 2,567, expected to rise to 2,808 by the end of 2001.

Data on capacity and satisfaction surveys

The hospital has 1,088 beds, of which 1,001 are for general admission and 87 in day hospital. In 1998, under regular regime, the facilities recorded 55,000 hospitalizations, accounting for about 20 percent of the entire provincial healthcare offerings.

Returning to the survey, it should be noted that it was conducted using a questionnaire consisting of 79 questions that considered, with appropriate filters, all factors relevant to citizens and their legitimate expectations.

The analysis also highlights how satisfaction with the offered service increases with the length of hospitalization.

It is worth noting that Desenzano also holds another record, this time achieved by the hospital facility located in the capital of Garda. It concerns the drastic reduction in waiting times, as documented in detail about a month ago by the hospital’s medical director in Desenzano.

Indeed, all outpatient services are carried out within the time limits imposed by the healthcare reform introduced a year ago by the Regione Lombardia. This represents, in essence, another step forward in strengthening hospital services.
