Trento Castle Revitalization: New Plans for Cultural Preservation and Access
The most exciting updates regarding the castle and its revitalization are tied to the Prg project, which the Dellanna assessor previewed the other evening at the council, prompted by opposition parties on this very topic.
Clarifying the implementation plans, Dellanna mentioned the latest developments concerning the city’s most significant monument, and immediately council members sought more details.
Thus, the project to enhance the entire complex was announced, which will be carried out once the Provincia completes its renovation.
The unbreakable principle remains that the castle should be regarded as a cultural and historical asset, not a tourist attraction: based on this premise, in Trento, it was decided to keep accessible the lower part, the Rizza area, and to charge only for the historical tour, starting from the new ticket office, which will be housed inside the former church, and leading to the Sartor room where all historical-iconographic material for reconstructing the structure’s history will be displayed.
A second scenic-botanical tour will start along the perimeter wall up to the Laghel tower, inside which materials related to the Arcense history will be exhibited.
The most significant aspect is that no service facilities will be built within the castle complex, as the focus is solely on promoting its cultural and historical significance: at most, a small kiosk for drinks, but nothing more.
All necessary amenities to facilitate visitor access to the monument will likely be concentrated at the former Argentina site. This represents the second update linked to the implementation plans of the Prg: the municipality has already met with the owners, who are involved in a longstanding legal struggle to develop some condominiums on the same land, and has reached a preliminary agreement.
The goal is to preserve the layout of the important structure, allocating the entire ground floor to services that will welcome and guide tourists eager to visit the castle and olive grove.
Moreover, there is more: following discussions with those managing the Parenti property, the Municipality may obtain a 15-meter-wide strip of land connecting the Braile to via Lomego. It is also possible that a suitable space for car parking for visitors reaching the cliff could be created.
Furthermore, Dellanna publicly announced that these negotiations are already in advanced stages.
