Terre dell’Alto Mincio Festival Connects Valeggio, Peschiera, and Mantua
The “Terre dell’Alto Mincio” event will take place on June 3rd and 4th, marking the first time that the Pro loco associations and administrations of Valeggio and Peschiera have united with those of Mantuan towns Monzambano and Ponti in a single tourism and cultural initiative, supported by the Apt 12, the two provinces, the Mincio Park, and numerous associations.
Schedule and Planned Activities
Indeed, starting Saturday afternoon, visitors will have the option to choose among artistic routes (exhibitions in Peschiera and Ponti sul Mincio, guided tours of the castles of Valeggio and Monzambano, and the Ardietti Fortress in Peschiera), sports activities (including Venetian rowing, horseback riding, or kayaking), and evening shows (music in Ponti and Monzambano, and theater performances at the castle in Valeggio).
On Sunday, visitors can rent bicycles in Borghetto to explore the nearby cycle route or in Monzambano to head towards Castellaro Lagusello, where naturalistic exhibits and conferences will take place.
Local Events and Traditions
This event will feature a particularly evocative tradition for residents of the Salionze neighborhood: the restoration by Ponti of the ferry that historically linked the locality of Scarpina with the similar named area on the Mantuan side of the Mincio, during the two days of the event.
The two-day event will conclude on Sunday evening inside the unique Forte Ardietti environment, with a traditional dinner.
Authorities’ Interventions and Evaluations
“We now consider ourselves a tourist town,” stated mayor Fausto Sachetto, “and we must focus on rediscovery and enhancement of our territory, also through inter-municipal and inter-provincial initiatives.”
For Marenino Brentegani, president of the Pro loco, “the path of collaboration within a homogeneous area like ours is to be pursued carefully.”
The beaches of Garda are no longer enough for eight million tourists. “And the demand for culture, history, and pristine nature is increasing,” declared Davide Bendinelli, provincial tourism assessor.
