Lake Garda Fishing Rules Updated for Roach and Tench in Brescia

Tench and roach from Lake Garda, thanks to a decree from the Provincia di Brescia, issued on May 22nd for one species and May 25th for the other, are now subject to a new regulation.

These rules are already included in the New Unified Fishing Regulation for Lake Garda, which is already in force on the Veronese shore but not yet on the Brescia shore, pending official approval following the upcoming Provincial Council.

Following last month’s decree banning pike fishing, there are now regulations concerning the fishing of roach or lake sardine, namely Alosa fallax benacensis (a fish highly anticipated by both amateur and professional anglers), and, for the first time in our memory on Brescia’s Garda, the fishing of tench.

Details on the Fishing Regulations for Roach

Let’s look at the details. Regarding roach fishing, there will be periods of total ban and periods of partial ban.

The total ban periods for all fishers, both amateurs and professionals, will be from 12:00 PM on June 5th to 12:00 PM on June 10th, and from 12:00 PM on July 1st to 12:00 PM on July 6th.

During these periods, the transport, possession, sale, and commercial trade of roach are also prohibited in public establishments.

Instead, during the entire spawning period of the roach, from June 1st to July 31st, a “combing” fishing method will be allowed.

That is, only licensed professionals will be permitted to fish during this time, and amateurs will be prohibited, and vice versa.

It has also been decided that, apart from the biological closure on the specified dates, amateurs during the week will not (attention: “not”) be allowed to fish for roach from 12:00 PM Monday until 12:00 PM Tuesday, and from 12:00 PM Wednesday until 12:00 PM Thursday.

Professionals, on the other hand, will not be allowed to fish from 12:00 PM Tuesday to 12:00 PM Wednesday, and from 12:00 PM Saturday to 12:00 PM Sunday.

Fishing nets, on permitted days (from 12:00 PM Thursday to 12:00 PM Saturday, and from 12:00 PM Sunday to 12:00 PM Monday), can be set two hours before sunset and removed by 9:00 AM the following day.

Norms on Tench Fishing

Regarding tench: it cannot be fished from June 5th to June 25th, and the minimum allowed size is set at 25 cm.
