Salò’s Barbarano Sports Center Renovation Approved and Underway

A new design for the «Palafrate» in Barbarano di Salò is underway. For some time, there has been an intention to renovate the Barbarano sports center managed by the sports club «Robur», whose athletes are involved in athletics and basketball.

Project and Approvals

Now, a project aims to make the entire area more functional. The plan was developed by Architect Luigi Ferrari and the Technical Office of the Comune di Salò and was already approved by the City Council as a preliminary project at the end of last year. Environmental experts have also expressed their favorable opinion.

The Municipal Executive will now need to approve the definitive executive project, after which the CONI will provide its official opinion, following the verbal authorization already granted.

Project Details

“The project is characterized by attention to architectural detail,” says the Public Works counselor, Bernardo Berardinelli, “particularly considering the high landscape value of the surrounding environment.” The new sports hall will gain some space on the side adjacent to the supermarket, towards the «Gardesana», where the boundary corridor will be removed.

The basketball court will be retained here, which also contains the volleyball and five-a-side football fields. The roof will be made of glass and laminated wood. The dimensions of the external football field will be slightly reduced, creating a five-a-side pitch, and 24 parking spaces will be added on the sides, along with eight indoor spaces for gym use.

Structures and Costs

A distinctive feature of the project will be the bleachers shared by both spaces (interior and exterior). The plan involves constructing a structure serving as a grandstand for both the gymnasium and the small field, with all dressing rooms and services built underneath that meet CONI standards.

Total cost: 450 million lire, financed with the municipality’s own funds. “As work progresses, we will see if additional funding is needed for finishing touches,” adds Architect Anna Gatti from the Salò Technical Office.

The tender for the work is expected to be called by summer, with construction starting next fall and concluding in spring 2001.
