New D’Annunzio War Museum Opens at Vittoriale in Gardone

A war museum dedicated to D’Annunzio‘s enterprises, created with a strict adherence to the poet’s aesthetic, has been completed recently within the rooms of Schifamondo, at the Vittoriale.

The permanent exhibition of extraordinary relics – recovered, studied, and museumly displayed by ambassador dottor Antonio Spada, who is designated as the «curator and lifetime director» of the new exhibition space – will be inaugurated on Saturday.

The museum can be visited by groups of up to eight people.

Origin and management of the museum

The new memorial was born from a converging commitment of the Fondazione del Vittoriale, the Comune di Gardone – particularly through the efforts of the assessor Ciccarelli – and the Fondazione Cab-Banco di Brescia.

The sole interpreter of the museum’s choices is Antonio Spada, who accepted the appointment, tying his commitment exclusively to the display arrangements, carried out without interference and with the exclusive interface of the Vittoriale presidency.

His approach involved close dialogue with D’Annunzio, poet-soldier, the man of the flight over Vienna, of the Buccari prank, and of significant demonstrative actions.

Spada is known for his profound expertise in the history of honor awards and the diplomatic-military world.
