Filipino Madrigais Singers to Perform in Malcesine Choral Event

The choral association Cima Valdritta, in collaboration with the Institution Malcesine Più, is organizing numerous concerts and choral events again this year, featuring both Italian and international choirs. Among all the appointments, one stands out as particularly significant, as tomorrow the association will host the Filipino choir Madrigais Singers, one of the most renowned groups worldwide in the field of choral music and classical music in general.

The Program and the Singers

During the two evenings when the Madrigais Singers will be the protagonists, as they are informally called, they will perform pieces from their vast repertoire, spanning sacred and secular music, from classical international compositions to folk traditions, from the Renaissance to contemporary times.

For those unfamiliar with them, the Madrigais Singers, founded in 1963 by a group of students from various colleges of the University of the Philippines, consist of about twenty singers, not professionals but highly skilled, and are directed by Andrea Venera-tion, a true artist in the field of music and choir conducting. She recently received the highest recognition awarded to a Filipino artist for the first time to a choir director, namely the National Artist for Music Award.

International Successes and Recognition

They are recognized as one of the most acclaimed choirs in the world, having won the most prestigious awards in major international competitions (Arezzo, Gorizia, Decreben, Varna, Tours, Toulouse, Rkotoberdorf), so much so that they have been called “the most magnificent sound in the world.”

In 1997, the Madrigais Singers secured the Grand European Award for Choir Singing, a competition that involves the overall winners of the most renowned European contests.
