Affi and Leiblfìng Officially Twinned in Cultural and Civic Exchanges

The official twinning ceremony between Affi and the German city of Leiblfìng took place on the German side on Saturday, May 13, at the Leiblfìng Town Hall, and will be repeated tomorrow in Affi during the Medieval Festival, with the participation of a sizable Bavarian delegation.

On this occasion, in Bavaria, the dedicated Committee organized a coach trip to follow the event, involving local administrators, representatives of civic associations, and residents of the town.

Leiblfìng is a small town of approximately 4,000 inhabitants in eastern Bavaria, located in the Aiterach River valley, which flows into the nearby Danube, about 40 km from the border with the former Czechoslovakia.

History and formalization of the twinning

“The exchanges with Leiblfìng have been ongoing reciprocally since 1998, and now we have formalized the official exchange with a dedicated ceremony that resulted in the signing of a protocol and the presentation of symbolic gifts during a celebration in honor of the Italian guests,” explains the delegated councilor Alfredo Opri.

After the signing of the protocol of twinning by Mayor Carla De Beni and the mayor of Leiblfìng, Josef Hammerschmid, the Municipality of Affi gifted the twin town a unique sculpture in red ammonite depicting the two municipal coats of arms joined together.

The respective City Councils have already ratified the twinning, which will now be implemented through reciprocal exchanges of citizens, cultural and sporting associations, as well as school groups.
