Longtime Calmasino Teacher Giovanni Mascanzoni Retires after 30 Years of Service
After almost three decades of punctual and dedicated presence at the school, the quintessential teacher, Giovanni Mascanzoni, is retiring. A true institution for the town of Calmasino, where he has always been seen as the school authority, a guide for generations of kids—today men and women who have entrusted their own children to his care.
Beginning of the career and activities in school
Mascanzoni entered the world of teaching right after graduating. He taught in Pacengo, then moved to the Veronese mountains at Sant’Anna d’Alfaedo. He subsequently returned to the Bardolino school district, his hometown, settling permanently at the elementary schools of Calmasino.
Here, he held roles as a group leader and a member of the school council for many years. Alongside his family—his wife and three children—he was actively involved in managing the Bardolino municipal library, even taking on leadership roles. To this day, he remains part of the management committee of the municipal facility.
School transformations and Mascanzoni’s role
Throughout his long career, Mascanzoni experienced all the changes in education: from delegated decrees to modular teaching, sharing educational activities with his team of colleagues. In this new approach to “doing school,” he adapted easily, mainly interacting with female colleagues, having been for a long time the only male teacher in the school.
Mood and dedication
“We will miss him,” say his colleagues, “because Gianni, beyond his professionalism, has always offered, with availability, commitment, and meticulous care, his contribution to manual and practical activities essential for the school’s smooth operation, often offering “extraordinary” efforts without ever watching the clock.”
With the end of the school year, the entire Calmasino school community, along with former colleagues and students, gathers today around the teacher in a farewell celebration. The Bardolino municipal administration, including the mayor, will also be present and will award Giovanni Mascanzoni a gold medal in recognition of his dedication over many years of teaching service for generations of Calmasino residents.
