Arco Completes Electromagnetic Field Survey to Protect Residents
By summer, the investigation into the quality and quantity of sources of electromagnetic fields—initiated by the municipality of Arco, under the direct involvement of the environmental department headed by Fabrizio Miori—should be completed across the entire municipal territory.
Measurement Activities and Goals
The surveys, conducted according to specific procedures, are carried out by specialists provided by the province. The measurements began a month ago and are scheduled at a pace of one site per week, with the team dedicating an entire day to each location.
The purpose of this operation, which the municipality of Arco has undertaken despite the absence of particular urgent risk situations, is to develop a reference map. Once the regulations currently being drafted by the provincial council are finalized, it will be possible to immediately identify areas of genuine environmental risk.
Impact Assessment and Data Collection
The investigation does not merely identify sources of pollution: at each monitored site, technicians also collect all relevant information from the plant operators that can help compare current data with any existing records. This approach allows for a more accurate assessment of the actual impact on environmental quality and any potential harm to residents.
This is a complex and detailed effort that, once completed, will be presented to the city council, ensuring that all citizens—who are the most directly affected—are appropriately informed.
Monitoring and Awareness Role
The need to monitor electromagnetic emission centers and inform the population about the survey results was emphasized in a motion presented by Dr. Sergio Bassetti, the mayor’s appointee for health issues. He deemed it appropriate to draw general attention to the matter.
Electromagnetic fields do not concern only power lines; with the proliferation of cell phones and household appliances, they now impact every moment and location of our lives.
