Desenzano Hospital Restyling and Service Upgrades for Improved Care

The restyling and improvement project of the Desenzano hospital

Hospital as a place for care and recovery of health, but also as a hotel-like structure hosting tens of thousands of patients each year. The goal is, rightly, to qualify and improve the comfort of the rooms, the so-called “accommodation capacity,” according to the Azienda Sanitaria di Desenzano (Desenzano Health Authority).

And the “restyling” operation is currently involving the hospital in the Garda capital, subject to a series of interventions and investments. “Starting with the internal repainting of the building“, explains the hospital’s medical director, Dr. Vassallo. “We decided to repaint the hospital corridors, corridors, and atriums with light green, while the entrance has been painted in taupe, and the rooms and wards are painted in very light blue.”

Specific interventions and structural improvements

More colors have been reserved for the Pediatrics area, which caters to children. Here, the rooms are of various colors: pink, yellow, sky blue, customizing the environment.

But this is not the only ongoing intervention. Within a week, all patient rooms will be equipped with color televisions, so patients will no longer be forced to rent a TV.

The hospital garden has also been improved, planting many trees, shrubs, and flowers. The issue of installing air conditioning remains to be addressed, a goal included in the programs of the new general director of the Azienda Sanitaria (Health Authority).

Enhancement of services and new emergency facilities

With the arrival of the tourist season and the consequent increase in certain services, the Desenzano hospital has strengthened its emergency services. “A third doctor has been added to Desenzano during the daytime hours” and a fifth professional nurse for the first two shifts, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.,” adds Dr. Vassallo. “The surgical activity in the operating rooms remains almost unchanged.”

Interpreters are also available, tasked with acting as intermediaries between foreign patients and doctors. Proper information from patients regarding symptoms or sensations allows for better assistance.

Emergency and territorial assistance services

Regarding urgent and emergency services, the Azienda Ospedaliera di Desenzano has recently created new services. A first aid station has been operational in Gargnano for a month, established through a specific law enacted by the Regione Lombardia (Lombardy Region).

Assistance is provided through an equipped ambulance staffed with qualified personnel, starting with a doctor. The service operates 24 hours a day.

Since mid-June, a first response station has been in operation until September, a sort of emergency room available to residents in the Middle Lake area. These services aim to ensure quick responses to the sick individuals living in the middle and upper Garda, far from the hospitals in Desenzano and Gavardo, and difficult to reach in reasonable time during the summer months due to the perpetually congested lakeside highways.
