Bologna Implements Underground Waste Bins in Repubblica Square

Finally, the unsightly and often stinky trash bins will disappear. The project will start at Repubblica square in Bolognano, where housewives will deposit household waste underground. The containers will actually be buried in a sealed compartment to prevent odors, while the waste will be inserted through a hole in the ground from which it cannot be retrieved. Periodic waste collection will be possible using special pneumatic springs that will allow the underground tank to reach the compactor truck.

Details of the system and works

The revolutionary system, which will soon be installed in other areas to eliminate trash bins, will be financed by the C9. Work will begin shortly alongside the expected renovation of the square and will be completed in autumn. The project includes the redevelopment of the green area with new flower beds and plants, the creation of a playground, and an increase in insufficient parking spaces.

There is also a change for the fountain located at the entrance of the square: it will be moved to the center.
