Bisse Regatta Overlaps with Football as Garda Race Excites Fans
The Bisse Regatta and Its Overlap with International Football
Partially overshadowed by international football, the Bisse regatta, held Saturday alongside the match won by the Azzurri against Romania. The national team’s appeal was too strong, and only foreign tourists and rowing enthusiasts crowded the lakeside promenade and port pier to follow the second race of the Garda rowing championship.
The onshore parade of the crews was also canceled due to the musicians’ absence, as they appeared unwilling to leave the video to accompany the oarsmen’s flags with fanfare notes through the streets of the historic center. Despite these absences, the rowing event reached moments of notable suspense and excitement, heightened by the sound of horns and trumpets at the moments of Totti and Inzaghi’s goals.
The Race Results and Highlights
An exhilarating race with the four boats almost simultaneously rounding the course buoys before facing the final stretch of the 1400-meter challenge on equal terms. The victory was well-deserved by the Garda rowers (Pincini, Bertoncelli, Sala, and Malfer), who managed to beat Ichtya, Peschiera’s bissa, by one second at the finish buoy, which was only slightly ahead of Bardolino, while Villanella from Gargnano finished farther behind.
Malfer, 51, head boatman with nine flags won over his 32 years of racing, celebrated with a jump into the water. “It’s an auspicious victory,” emphasized Pincini, the club president, “we hope to replicate it in the future.” Less satisfied was Montresor, president of the Centro nautico di Bardolino bisse team.
“We made an error on the first leg, getting the boat turned sideways. We lost precious seconds and couldn’t recover. Still, kudos to the Garda team.” Congratulations also came from D’Iseppi of the Associazione remiera di Peschiera, who had stayed throughout the race leaning on the stone lighthouse at the port, contemplating the next moves for the upcoming Saturday event in Gargnano, on the Brescia side of Lake Garda.
The Next Races and Awards
The event opened with a heat won by the young crew of Preonda di Bardolino, with a significant advantage over Lacisium and Betty and Torricelle, the two boats from Cassone. Enthusiastic support was seen in the second race, where Adelaide from Garda finished only fourth, while the race was won by Sebina from Lake Iseo, followed by Serenissima from Salò and Benacense from Toscolano Maderno.
In the following race, Clusanina, the other crew from Lake Iseo, made a strong showing, thus advancing to the strong boats’ heat in the next challenge, along with Portesina, Sirenetta, and Lazise’s Birba. Then all gathered in the square to celebrate the victory of the Azzurri and the bisse crews.
