Castiglione delle Stiviere City Council Approves Urban and Infrastructure Plans

City Council Meeting and Urban Planning Changes

The city council with a reduced minority contingent took place Tuesday evening in Castiglione delle Stiviere. Of the eight councilors belonging to various opposition groups, four were absent: notable absences included Paganella and Confalonieri, who, after protesting and withdrawing from three consecutive sessions, have not participated in the council’s work since.

Regarding the agenda of the council, the first items, presented by the budget councilor Innocente Sereni, concerned the acknowledgment of an initiative aimed at stabilizing public finances and the second variation to the 2000 forecast budget. These two points proceeded smoothly, without significant discussion from the councilors, as did the third budget-related topic, which involved the agreement between the municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere and the Province of Mantova for joint negotiations regarding the issuance conditions of bond loans.

After completing these budgetary items, the council moved on to examine and approve a series of amendments to the master plan, some related to urban land use designations and others to changes in the implementing technical regulations. Among these amendments was one concerning the sector currently hosting the ARCI: it was approved with the approval of some observations submitted by private individuals and with the unanimous support of the entire council.

Urban Renovation Projects and Infrastructure

The council then examined and approved, though this time without the support of the minority parties (except for Zaglio’s support for Pirossina), two projects: one for a sports center to be built at Pirossina and another for a new parking lot near the Castle.

Assessors Beruffi, Sereni, and Azzoni provided updates on these two topics: the project for the sports park at Pirossina (cost around 2 billion lire) is a crucial step to avoid the landfill and for the municipality to acquire the area; the second involves creating a parking space in a strategic area for the city center and the Castle, which the municipality has secured over years of effort.
