Malcesine Choral Concert Showcases Italian and European Folk Music
During the concert, there will also be pieces dedicated to four European nations and music. Three different Italian regions—specifically Veneto, Piemonte, and Toscana—will showcase their own style and traditional folk music through choral singing at the upcoming event in Malcesine, scheduled for Saturday at the castle theater of the Scaliger castle.
The choral societies and their meetings
The three choirs— the local “Le voci di Malcesine“, the “Burcina” choir from Biella, and the “Amici della musica” choir from Ponsacco (Pisa)—will gather for an interesting concert in collaboration with the local Istituzione Malcesine.
The Malcesine mixed choir, directed by Professor Enrico Miaroma, which will open the evening, comes after a previous high-level meeting with both guest choirs last Saturday, stemming from an October event last year, when they were invited to Tuscany by the “Amici della musica“—where they quickly established good friendships, including with the Piedmontese “Burcina” choir, also hosted at the major Tuscan festival.
Since then, the relationships have remained vibrant, leading to the opportunity to meet all together again. On this occasion, the “Le voci di Malcesine” choir will initially present folk songs by De Marzi, then proceed with a European medley featuring four different nations, alongside light music performed in English.
The repertoire and participating choirs
Followed by the “Burcina” choir, composed of about forty members arriving from Biella under the direction of Professor Bruno Giacomini, to perform an enjoyable repertoire. Although it features some Alpine folk songs, this male-voice choir has long been exploring music outside the narrow national borders, seeking new popular musical expressions that may be less known but equally captivating.
This choir, with over twenty years of activity and initiated with great enthusiasm and friendship among its members under Giacomini’s careful guidance, has refined its vocal expression, achieving levels that have earned increasing acclaim.
To conclude the evening with spiritual and Tuscan folk songs will be the “Amici della musica” choir, directed by Professor Alessandro Cavallini.
This mixed-voice choir spans from folk music to sacred and secular polyphony, with numerous concerts performed in Italy and abroad, as well as recordings produced in recent years, reflecting the new vocal approach promoted by the choir itself to explore a broader and more complex vocal repertoire increasingly requested.
Event details
All in all, this is an excellent opportunity for an evening immersed in the tradition of choral singing.
