Desenzano’s Day Center Boosts Elderly Care and Socialization
The new Integrated Day Center for Non-Autonomous Elderly established by Opera Pia S. Angela Merici is functioning well. The service was launched a month ago, and the influx of users is significant enough to consider the initiative successful.
“The authorization,” explains President Massimo Bernardini, “is for 15 places, but during the initial phase we have decided to accept a maximum of ten people. The attendance is good: on average, we have 7 to 8 individuals present. During the day, we assist non-autonomous pensioners, providing all the services offered to permanent residents: medical assistance, nursing, rehabilitation, entertainment, meals, and logistical support, including transportation.”
Goals and benefits of the service
“The service aims to help relieve families who continue to keep non-autonomous elderly at home. It contributes to improving the quality of life of the elderly, and also offers some recovery in terms of socialization. This is one of the most significant aspects of the new service.”
Indeed, people who have been attending the facility for a month, located in the area that once housed the social center, have experienced a notable improvement in maintaining their small autonomy, even in minor daily activities.”
Participation methods and costs
Attendance is not limited to residents: the regulation establishes a daily fee of 35,000 lire for Desenzano residents and 40,000 lire for those living in other municipalities. For home transportation, there is a fee of 5,000 lire per day.
