Gardesana Traffic Eased as New Road Interchange Opens in Brescia Region

Provincial councilor Mauro Parolini is satisfied and emphasizes “the opening of the triple interchange of the variant to the state road 45 bis.” The head of the Anas department in Milan, engineer Maurizio Maurizi, is also pleased, highlighting the significant effort made to meet user expectations: “We believe we have operated to the best of our ability; it is a recognition we deserve.” This morning at 11 a.m., the final act of a situation that had heavily impacted Gardesana traffic for a long time.

Details of the inauguration and objectives

The President of the Province, Alberto Cavalli, joined by assessore Parolini, will cut the ribbon for a project eagerly awaited by all. This will surely not be the “panacea” for the long queues affecting connections to Salò, Desenzano, and Valsabbia, especially on holiday weekends, and not only during the tourist and lake vacation season; traffic will undoubtedly be eased by the new tunnel solution in the three directions.

Future prospects and ongoing works

After the inauguration and blessing of the road, near the archaeological digs at Monte Covolo, the completion of the variant to 45 bis is postponed to spring 2001. In less than a year, the site will be reopened, albeit only partially. Disruptions will return, but the triple interchange will remain accessible at all times.

Impact on traffic and connections

The current Tormini intersection will serve only local traffic, with traffic issues returning regularly in the upper part of Salò and even more on the northern Gardesana. Simultaneously with the new segment, which cost 170 billion lira, the connection between Gavardo and Villanuova, closed for months to allow continued work, will reopen. In recent days, thanks to overtime work and especially after the end of the truck drivers’ strike, the recovery has been significant.
