Desenzano To Launch Resident Survey for New City Master Plan
The keyword is to improve the quality of life for the residents of Desenzano. And, to achieve this goal by focusing on concrete actions and prioritizing initiatives deemed most important, the municipal administration has decided to consult the citizens.
Thus, for the first time in Desenzano’s history, the Municipality will conduct a survey involving all resident families, which number over 9,000. They will be asked to respond to a questionnaire, objectively indicating their opinions on the current situation and the things to be done.
Objectives and Interventions of the Survey
“Initially,” explains the urban planning councilor Orlando Farinelli (An) — “we had considered conducting an exploratory survey among the residents of Desenzano about the city’s development needs, aimed at creating the new city master plan. Then, with input from the Urban Planning Commission, we thought of expanding the initiative, paying closer attention to the city and its 23,000 residents.”
“The main concern remains the quality of life of those who live and establish themselves permanently in our city. From there,” continues the councilor, “the idea was born to expand the questionnaire and carry out a survey.”
The questions proposed to Desenzano residents will number around forty. They range from ideas about land use, traffic, sports and recreational facilities, cultural venues, green spaces, urban development, and its various possibilities, including redevelopment and renovations rather than new constructions.
Further, the questions will address services, noise, the lake, and beaches. The survey will kick off immediately after the summer season. In autumn, the questionnaire will be attached to the municipal newsletter.
Of course, residents are asked to provide honest insights; anonymity will be guaranteed for all. Therefore, Desenzano aims to prioritize residents’ quality of life in the planning of territorial development. The tool for this will be the new City Master Plan.
The current plan has been in effect for 14 years. Regulations also need to be adapted to new orientations. There remains a question regarding the time required to enact laws, which seem to be getting delayed indefinitely.
In fact, the left-wing administration of Mayor Massimo Rocca had already initiated work on a new Prg (Piano Regolatore Generale – General Urban Plan). The study was entrusted to professors from the Politecnico di Milano for the research part, while the technical planning was assigned to external professionals.
The work already completed involved assessing the current situation and initially identifying options. However, the work was submitted to the City Council when the end-of-term elections were near. As a result, everything was postponed.
However, the vote by residents favored the center-right. The Felice Anelli administration took office at the Municipality. Urban planning duties were entrusted to Professor Adalberto Avanzi from Forza Italia, who was replaced last December during a government reshuffle by Orlando Farinelli from AN.
Meanwhile, the Urban Planning Commission was established. The approach is to use the work completed so far, adding the suggestions from Desenzano’s residents.
