Malcesine’s Giro del Trentino Cost €96.5M; Investment and Future Plans

How much did the Giro del Trentino, the cycling classic that for the second consecutive year took place in April in the municipality of Alto Lago, cost? The question was raised by the minority group Camp de l’Ora, which only at the end of June received the response expected since early May in the City Council.

It was Giuliano Colombo, president of the institution Malcesine Più, who provided the details, outlining a series of figures. “The financial commitment amounted to 96.5 million euros. However, we have already collected 12.5 million euros from various sponsors, while we are still waiting to receive the promised contribution from the Provincia and the Bacino Imbrifero Montano. Therefore, the amount is expected to decrease.”

It should also be remembered that half of the expenses incurred were used to pay for the accommodation of the cyclists and the entire caravan accompanying the Giro. Money invested for the benefit of local hotels.”

Regarding criticisms and the future

Regarding the critique made by the minorities about the wastage of public funds, the majority representative remarked: “Malcesine appeared on TV on Rai’s screens for about twenty-five minutes. The race was also broadcast on Eurosport. In terms of image and tourist promotion, our town came out very well.”

And the future? “I strongly believe,” stated Carlo Chincarini, sports delegate councilor, “that we will host the Giro del Trentino again in 2001.”
