Lake Garda’s Environmental Status Highlights at Balatonföldvár Conference

The conference held a few days ago at Balatonföldvár on Lake Balaton, Hungary, was packed with topics, focusing on the issues affecting Europe’s largest lakes.

Participants and Topics Discussed

On the panel of speakers, alongside representatives of the lake communities from Lake Constance, Balaton, and Ohrid, was also Vincenzo Ceschini, Vice President of Comunità del Garda, who, together with Lamberto Dondio from Salò of the Garda-Balaton association, represented Lake Garda at the important conference.

Of particular interest was the proposal put forward by the small Balkan state to the Garda delegation, in which they were asked to share their decades-long experience in an effort to revive local tourism, once flourishing but now practically erased by the Yugoslavian and Albanian wars.

Scientific Collaboration and Environmental Protection

Naturally, alongside the purely tourism-related aspects, discussions also covered scientific collaboration aimed at water protection with the limnological laboratory of Riva.

During his speech, Dr. Ceschini also presented, based on the latest data processed by the laboratory itself, led by Dr. Chiara Defrancesco, the current good health status of Lake Garda, emphasizing the significant efforts of the competent authorities to preserve the environmental and climatic characteristics that are typically Mediterranean, considered unique in the world and a true tourist asset.
