Arco Residents Urge Pedestrian Bridge Linking Caneve and Town Center
There are over five hundred citizens, precisely 523, who believe that the request of Caneve residents to be connected to the historic center of Arco via a pedestrian and bicycle footbridge over the Sarca at the height of the oratory in Via della Cinta is justified, as it would spare them the uncomfortable and increasingly dangerous crossing of the bridge. Indeed, many signatures were collected yesterday morning by Gino Zamboni, accompanied by Silvio Malfer, and handed to Mayor Veronesi, with the presence of the urban planning councilor Sergio Dellanna.

The petition’s message is very brief: “Following the letter sent by Mr. Silvio Malfer to the Mayor and the public works councilor of the municipality of Arco, fully sharing its content, we, the undersigned citizens of Arco, invite the municipal administration to promptly initiate the construction of said project, namely the pedestrian and bicycle footbridge over the Sarca at the height of the parish oratory from and to Caneve, considering it important and fundamental for connecting the historic center of Arco and for tourism and commercial development.”
After signing, the mayor and the urban planning councilor informed the two presenters that the issue has already been officially brought to the attention of the municipal council, which has expressed a favorable opinion for a prompt resolution. Regarding timing, the cost estimated upon completion of the project should be covered by the 2001 budget, and shortly thereafter, the project implementation could be initiated.
They also deferred the definition of details such as the exact location and the characteristics of the footbridge to a subsequent written communication. This is eagerly anticipated in Caneve, but also among Arco residents: perhaps out of concern that the circumvallation may diminish the perceived urgency of the issue. However, such concerns are unfounded: the pedestrian and bicycle connection between Caneve and the center is indeed a crucial element of the river park between Via della Cinta and Sarca, also included in the new PRG (Piano Regolatore Generale, General City Plan).
