Pozzolengo Hosts Wine and Viticulture Event Amid Storm Damage
It was a success “Colline, vini e cantine di Pozzolengo”, the meeting held on Saturday in the municipality of the first Gardesano hinterland, as part of “MosaicoScienze”. This important event, which last weekend attracted numerous personalities from the eight municipalities promoting it, seven from Mantua and Pozzolengo in Brescia, stands out, including figures such as Rita Levi Montalcini, Roberto Vacca, and Franco Malerba.
The venue and central theme
The meeting held in Pozzolengo, at the conference room of the “La muraglia” Hotel, was supposed to be the occasion for celebrating and recognizing the eleven wineries of its territory. Unfortunately, it became a moment of reflection after the unfortunate storm two weeks ago that damaged part of the wine harvest.
The harvest situation and the response of attendees
Fortunately, not everything was lost, but the predictions of a excellent and abundant year, unlike any other, now only hold the promise of a good harvest. Many attendees emphasized this situation in their speeches. The intervention of Giampaolo Mantelli, Agriculture Assessor of the Provincia di Brescia, was highly appreciated, as he confirmed the support and backing of the entire Provincial Council, as well as the near certainty that Pozzolengo will be declared a natural disaster zone.
Interventions and future prospects
The speech by Dr. Francesco Arrigoni, editor of the magazine “de Gustibus”, encouraged producers to value all the wine they manage to produce, especially with tourists, and to foster a spirit of solidarity among all. This way, those with more luck in less damaged harvests can support those less fortunate, and vice versa, ensuring that those who run out of stock direct customers to their colleagues.
Memories and recognitions
Also appreciated was the intervention of Professor Michele Vescia, somewhat the father of Gardesano viticulture. Reminding of the difficult beginnings of wine production in the Pozzolengo area, he stated that, despite everything, it is now definitely possible to recover and quickly resume full-scale work.
Guest of honor
Noteworthy were also the presence of other distinguished guests, such as Dr. Alberto Pancera, president of the Ente Vini Bresciani, lawyer Francesco Ghiraldi, president of the Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC, Ezio Campagnola, National President of “Arte in Tavola”, and Emilio Zanola, delegate of the Italian Sommelier Association of Brescia.
