Hunters Caught Violating Regulations with Female Roe Deer on Mount Baldo
They were caught with their hands in the cookie jar, or rather with the roe deer in their backpack. A female roe deer, to be precise. Of course, without any right to kill it. The two hunters, G.D. and P.C., both from Torbole, killed it on Mount Baldo a few days ago, violating strict hunting regulations.
Rules and Violations in Hunting
In fact, it is only permissible to capture females (in addition to the unfortunate males assigned to each section) with a specific selection permit. Such selection is allowed solely for hunters who can rightfully claim the title of “expert.” And certainly, neither of the two had the credentials of an expert: in fact, it is known that one of them could only shoot a male (a target), while the other (without a shotgun because his target had already been shot) could only accompany his friend.
The prey was slaughtered mercilessly, moreover. The small animal — as recounted by fellow hunters (those with a conscience and, to be honest, quite annoyed by the misconduct) — was calmly grazing with its two young ones. And claiming innocence due to good faith does not justify the error.
The Consequences of Their Actions
“Like confusing a pike-perch for a chub,” says a hunter with a fishery analogy. For a hunter, it is considered impossible to mistake a capriola (a female roe deer) for a roe deer. Aside from the antlers, the coat color and size also prevent blatant mistakes. Anyway, the two, if they thought they could get away with it, soon realized they were mistaken.
Their actions were closely watched from above by the forest ranger. After hearing the gunshot, it was easy for him to spot the poachers with binoculars, wait for them at the trap, and expose them. The two now face serious consequences. In addition to a prolonged suspension of their firearms licenses, they also face hefty fines.
