Alpini of Basso Lago Celebrate New Headquarters and Regional Gathering

Today and tomorrow will be two days that will leave a mark on the Alpini of the Basso Lago and especially for those from Peschiera. It is estimated that around a thousand “penne nere” (navy blue feathers, referring to Alpini members) will flood the town of Arilica, to host their regional gathering and to celebrate with their colleagues from Peschiera the inauguration of the new headquarters.

Certainly a prestigious headquarters that the Alpini, through perseverance and sacrifice, are ready to return to the town, faithfully restored according to the original Austrian military design. The Palleria, a building owned by the Municipality, was entrusted in 1993 on a lease to the local group of the Associazione Nazionale Alpini with the commitment to restore it to its former glory.

The role of the Alpini and the celebrations

Today, the Alpini are rightly proud of this effort for the entire community, which will remember over time that the Alpini are united not only when they gather in company, but especially to be useful to society.

The celebrations will begin this afternoon with the inauguration of an art exhibition at 6 p.m., featuring a piece by a group artist, Lieutenant Ezio Miori, along with the eighteenth chorus competition of Alpini in the parish church of San Martino.

This event will feature performances by three choirs: the Coro ANA Monte Alto from Rogno (Bergamo), the Coro Castel Flavon from Bolzano, and the local Alpini choir, celebrating fifteen years of activity.

Tomorrow, the Alpini will gather at 9:30 a.m. for the raising of the flag, and at 10:30 a.m. they will participate in a mass held in the courtyard of the Palleria by their chaplain, Father Claudio Liuti.

After the religious service, the new headquarters will be officially inaugurated. The ceremony will be followed by the blessing of the new flag and the new rubber boat of the civil protection team of the Basso Lago.

The authorities and the closing program

There will also be the customary speeches from the authorities, including the mayor of Peschiera, Umberto Chincarini, the Vice President of the Veneto Region, Angelo Fiorin, the President of the Province, Aleardo Merlin, and the President of the Verona section of the ANA, Alfonso Ercole.

The day will conclude with a parade to the monument to the fallen, with the laying of a wreath.
