Criticism and Prospects for Bike Lane Improvements in Basso Sarca

The Club «Amici della Terra dell’Alto Garda e Ledro», through its president Paolo Barbagli, intervenes to criticize the current situation of the bike lanes in Basso Sarca.

«We note with satisfaction,» writes Barbagli, «the position (published in Alto Adige on September 25th) of engineer Giuliano Trentini, author of the light mobility plan for the Municipality of Arco, regarding the bike connections between Riva and Arco.

Comment on the condition of the bike lanes

In particular, there is consensus in describing the current state of the Arco – Riva bike lanes as «disgraceful,» as well as in the commendable effort to shift as much cycling traffic as possible, which is hoped to increase in the Busa area given the favorable topography, onto green paths away from the fumes of traffic.

However, since this will only be possible to some extent, it is welcomed to learn that the «historic» bike lane along the Riva-Arco «is not only planned but also currently in the design stage».

Concerns and prospects

A certain concern arises upon reading that «this trail is part of the overall network with a secondary role, and that the extension to the south at the intersection with Via Grande Circonvallazione is not considered a priority».

It is hoped that this phrase does not effectively mean the project will be shelved, beyond the initial declarations.

It is also to be hoped — concludes the president of the environmental association from Riva — that soon there will be coordination meetings on various actions in this field, particularly regarding the bike lanes on Via S. Caterina, on via Ovo, and along the provincial road of S. Giorgio between the two municipalities involved, Arco and Riva del Garda.
