Salògolosa Food and Wine Tour Honors Local Legend Joseph Ferrari

This is a wine and food cultural-touristic route that winds through the streets and alleys of Salò’s city center, offering visitors quality foods and wines on the occasion of the City of Salò award, presented to a local who has made the name of our city famous.

Event Details

Due to the special nature of the evening, some private individuals will open their terraces, lounges, and courtyards of historic buildings, where guests can enjoy good jazz music combined with wine and food tastings.

To participate, attendees will need to purchase a coupon card, which, when detached individually, grants access to numerous tastings. The cost of a card is 70,000 lire. Participants will receive a detailed map of the route and a gift of a tasting glass pouch and utensils to use throughout Salògolosa.

The Event and the Recognition

Thus, the “Salògolosa” event, now in its third edition following the successful May 25th edition, aims not only to promote culinary arts — set in the charming historic center, enlivened by moments of “tasty” musical entertainment — but also to honor a distinguished local figure who has made the city’s name renowned beyond our borders: not only as a tribute to the individual but also as a symbol to inspire future generations, so that those choosing Salò as their destination can continue to trust in an illustrious tradition.

Friday, October 6, 2000 – 6:00 PM – Council Chamber

In the presence of distinguished guests, a tribute from the city will be presented to Salò native Joseph Ferrari in the Council Room of Palazzo Comunale, acknowledging his contribution since 1953 to enhancing Italian cuisine and wine culture in the most prestigious hotels in the United States.

His career, marked by professional successes, includes opening and managing luxury restaurants and hotels such as Jekyll Island Club Hotel in Georgia (where in 1927 the Rockefellers, Morgans, and Pulitzers founded the Federal Bank), the Radisson Suite Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, the Embassy Suites Hotel in Dallas, Texas, and the Capital House Hotel in Louisiana… But he is best known for his work at the famous Hotel Plaza in New York (1953-1980). As director of the Palm Court, Mr. Ferrari displayed his art of hospitality catering to an illustrious clientele, including U.S. Presidents, industrialists, and entertainment personalities. He often spoke of his hometown, saluting Salò, and enchanted these visitors with stories from his youth spent in the city.
