Bardolino Wine Symposium Highlights Research, Health, and Market Strategies
Quality and authenticity, health, and culture collectively represent the issues addressed during the symposium “Quality of Wine, Quality of Bardolino.” In Calmasino, at the headquarters of the Gruppo Italiano Vini, the volume that compiles the proceedings of the conference was presented.
It was Bonuzzi’s task, following greetings from Mayor Armando Ferrari, the president of the Poliedro Association Adelino Avanzini, the president of the Consorzio Tutela Giuseppe degli Albertini, and Narciso Faggian of Giv, to briefly outline the contents of the volume created with the support of Banca Popolare di Verona.
The contents of the volume and research on wine
Starting from wine as a special beverage imbued with culture, a central symbol of Western culture, and a unifying element of the Mediterranean diet, the speaker then focused on Fulvio Mattivi’s leading research, from the experimental center of the Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige, a pioneer in resveratrol research— a natural substance found in red wines, of which Bardolino has “generally high” levels.
In the overview, Bonuzzi mentioned Antonio Peretti’s contribution from the Accademia di Agricoltura, Scienze e Lettere di Verona regarding the hygienic quality of Bardolino, which has been “deeply improved in recent years”; Ottavio Bosello, a professor of Geriatrics and Gerontology at the Università di Verona, who recalled that moderate wine consumption can have a positive effect on health; and Mario Lazzarin, chief physician at the ospedale di Caprino, focusing on human health.
Other reflections and official moments
Finally, attention was given to the essay by Giacomo Di Marco, psychiatrist at the ospedale di Rovereto, on “the archaic symbolic values of wine”; along with Riccardo De Gobbi, director of the Ispettorato regionale dell’Agricoltura, and Giovanni D’Agostini, psychiatrist at the ospedale di Caprino.
The volume is further enriched by the refined illustrations of Claudio Rizzi. The evening also provided an opportunity to award gold medals to the winners of the 10th Spumanti DOC veronesi competition.
Giovanni D’Agostini, in his speech, conveyed the message—adopted by the president of the Consorzio Tutela—to reconsider the way Bardolino is marketed online, through a single brand or message.
