Salò Traffic System Updates as New One-Way Streets Are Implemented
Significant changes are announced in Salò’s traffic system. With the completion of the third phase of the Strada Parco project and the installation of new road signage, a series of measures (new one-way streets and opening of new routes) will come into effect starting today, leading to some modifications in the habits of road users in the town on Lake Garda. The updates mainly center around the roundabout near the “old” town stadium and aim essentially to rationalize traffic flow and parking in the Campoverde area.
Local Traffic Changes
Here are the details: in via Gratarolo, the road from San Giuseppe Church to the Police Headquarters, the current direction of travel will be reversed; in viale Bossi (the continuation of via Garibaldi, which from the historic center leads to Campoverde), a one-way system will be established from the intersection with via S. Giuseppe to the new roundabout; in via Umberto I (heading towards Desenzano-Salo city center), a mandatory right turn will be introduced, leading into the new Strada Parco.
The ordinance from the Municipal Police office also establishes other new one-way streets and mandatory directions in minor roads. “Salodiani — clarifies the head of the municipal police, Sandro Morandi — need not worry. These are significant variations, but they will not cause major upheavals in city traffic. It will just take some time to get used to them,” he explains.
Future Projects and Ongoing Works
The traffic plan approved by the Salò Municipality will introduce further developments in 2001. Currently, the tendering process is underway for the fourth phase of the Strada statale 45 bis, which in Salò is called via Dei Colli.
“The start of work — says again the head of the municipal police, Sandro Morandi — is scheduled for around March-April; completion is expected in autumn 2001,” he concludes.
