Lake Garda Water Release Sparks Fear of Flooding and Regional Dispute
On the shores of Lake Garda, the “water war” has broken out: last Saturday, during the 16 hours of extraordinary opening of the Adige River tunnel, 4.7 million cubic meters of water were released into Lake Garda, contributing to the flooding of Gargnano and Sirmione. The Brescia administration officials accuse their Trentinians colleagues: “irresponsible act” and the situation also faces the risk of reduced water outflows.
Lake Garda discharges 190 cubic meters of water per second into the Mincio River, but the risk of flooding along the Po River axis requires a revision of the discharge quotas.
