Pozzolengo Approves Budget, Council Expansion, and High-Speed Rail Debate
The Pozzolengo City Council approved the amendments to the Municipal Statute despite opposition parties requesting a delay to better examine the document.
Among the new provisions in the statute, the possibility of expanding the council to four assessors, who, unlike today, can be chosen from outside the elected council members.
The same session also approved the adjustment of the 2000 forecast budget, which stands at 5 billion 228 million lire.
Interventions and Budget Variations
The administration renewed the four-year contract for treasury services with Banca Popolare di Verona.
With a budget change, 230 million lire were allocated for the restoration of municipal buildings damaged by the tornado last September.
The interventions include replacing windows, fixtures, and shutters in the municipal building and schools.
Maintenance of roads and the restoration of public lighting are also planned.
The opposition abstained from voting on this resolution.
Issue of Building Land and Ici
A delicate point on the agenda was the matter of building land and the Ici tax, which was decided to be calculated on a lump-sum basis.
The town hall explained that door-to-door assessments would be uneconomical and dispersive.
Based on its real estate data, the municipality will determine the amount of the tax.
If the taxpayer accepts the municipal calculation, no further assessment will be made.
Conversely, if the user believes the tax amount set by the municipality is excessive, they can request a verification of the property’s surface areas.
The deductive method was not favored by the opposition, which also voted against the regulation to limit poaching.
High-Speed Rail Project and Updates
Then, discussion centered on the High-Speed rail project of the Milano – Venezia line.
The project is opposed by the Pozzolengo Municipality, since it would affect a significant stretch of land in Lugana and would particularly threaten the stability of Roveglia.
The discussion did not include a vote.
New Social Services Agency
Finally, Rosanna Prezioso was introduced to the council, who will take on the role of social worker and serve in Pozzolengo.
