Urgent Repairs Needed on Route 28 to Address Guardrail Gaps and Safety Risks

The protection barrier on the road to Monzambano was demolished a year and a half ago and has not been replaced since. The danger is on Route 28, where the guardrail is missing. Moreover, there is a bridge without a parapet, with a four-meter drop underneath.

Valeggio. Along Provincial Road 28, which runs from Valeggio to Monzambano, a segment of guardrail has been missing since June 1999. Additionally, on the same provincial road, on a bridge overlooking a four-meter steep slope, the protection is entirely absent.

Current Risks and Necessary Interventions

This situation poses a serious danger to motorists and to the overall road traffic, especially evident during this season when fog significantly reduces visibility. The danger along the Mincio route has been highlighted by Walter Carletti of Peschiera, who frequently travels this road.

Carletti, who has documented the hazardous situation by taking several photographs, warns: “There is a lot of talk about road safety, especially now that we are in the harsh season.” The Provincial Road 28 that runs through the scenic Mincio valley connects Valeggio to Monzambano, at the border between Veneto and Lombardy, providing direct access to the high Mantua area, Peschiera, and Lake Garda.

This artery is of considerable importance, often experiencing heavy vehicle traffic. It is used by commuters who work daily in both towns, as well as by motorists and tourists coming from Mantova heading north and vice versa.

Weather Conditions and Calls for Intervention

In some areas, the danger is imminent due to semi-curves and the layer of ice that forms on the roadway during colder days. Therefore, an urgent intervention by the Province is necessary to restore the protections and install the missing parapet in the segment where it is still absent.
