Nepal School Project Surpasses €100M in Fundraising Efforts

The fund-raising campaign promoted by the Castiglione alpinist Fausto De Stefani is exceeding expectations. The amount raised has surpassed one hundred million euros out of the 300 needed.

Goal and Location of the School

The school will be built in Kirtipur, about ten kilometers from the capital Kathmandu, and is intended to accommodate around 700 students. The initiative aims to provide classrooms and boarding for poor children, who now fill the streets of the Himalayan capital by the thousands.

Supporters and Promoters of the Initiative

The project is promoted, besides De Stefani, by the Veronese doctor Fabrizio Zamperoli, while the Italian point of contact is the non-profit «Fondazione senza frontiere» based in Castel Goffredo. “We set ourselves about two and a half years to raise the 300 million needed,” explains De Stefani.

Results of the Fundraising Campaign

“In the first three months of the campaign, we have collected over 100 million. This result exceeds even our expectations and demonstrates the sensitivity of many institutions and private individuals to a serious issue such as poverty and child illiteracy in Nepal.”

Contributions and Donation Methods

Contributors, just to mention a few, include the Provinces of Mantova and Brescia, the Municipality of Mantova, the Palazzo Te Association, as well as the Cai (Italian Alpine Club) and countless private individuals who have supported the cause through bank account 8936/12 at the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Castel Goffredo (ABI code 8466, Cab 57550), or through postal account 14866461 (reference School in Nepal).

De Stefani’s Activities

For the past three months, De Stefani has been engaged in a relentless tour across Italy. “I am optimistic,” says the climber, who is ranked sixth in the world for summiting the 14 eight-thousanders. “We have already drafted the preliminary purchase agreement for the land and can speed up the process. I am pleased to know that our initiative has sparked other projects, such as the work done in schools in Trentino, which are being sold to fund children’s support.” A chain of solidarity connecting Italy and Nepal.
