Garda Area Hotels and Events for New Year’s Eve 2001

It is a true metamorphosis that Basso Sarca is undergoing these days as the New Year’s celebrations for the new millennium take place. Swarms of Garda locals fleeing to vacation destinations of all kinds, especially warm ones, hotels and inns in the area polished and ready to host the many tourists expected on the shores of Garda for the last weekend of the year.

It’s a genuine shift with people coming and going, eager to enjoy, at midnight on Sunday, the spasmodic transition to 2001. While locals toast amidst the desert of the Sahara or the cold of the Arctic Circle, what follows is an overview of what Altogarda will offer for the special night.

Hotel facilities and events

First of all, the hotel establishments. Over fifty are open throughout the entire area. An absolute boom compared to the not-so-distant years of austerity. It’s not hard to remember when, on New Year’s Eve, only a handful of hotels opened their doors.

Riva del Garda will dominate the scene, with as many as thirty hotels in operation, some already fully booked. But also Nago-Torbole (around fifteen), Arco, Tenno, and even Dro have prepared their rooms and halls to welcome numerous guests. Almost all the establishments will host the traditional banquets, with some offering lavish New Year’s Eve parties with music and large dances, giving local residents who stayed at home the chance to participate as “outsiders”.

Prices, excluding the room, easily surpass one hundred thousand lire per person: ranging from 140,000 to 180,000, including wines, sparkling wine, and panettone.

Dining offers and New Year’s menus

Also, the various restaurants have quickly adapted to the new trend, offering characteristic menus for the evening alongside the traditional New Year’s dinners featuring zampone (stuffed pig’s trotter) and lentils. Dinners and lavish feasts range from 50,000 to 70-80,000 lire, but if seafood-based pasta is ordered, the price immediately climbs to around 130,000.

Even the Chinese restaurants have adjusted to Western New Year’s rituals, preparing a special menu for the occasion. Only a few Garda establishments remain out of step, offering nothing new or special for the night, leaving guests “free” to leave as quickly as possible and go enjoy, wherever they prefer, the craziest night of the year.
