Desenzano Introduces Paid Parking in Historic Center by February

By the end of this month, 145 existing parking spaces in Desenzano will be subject to parking fees. This is the decision made by Mayor Anelli’s Executive Committee the other afternoon, in accordance with the resolution of December 29th, in which the administration identified the parking areas in the historic center.

As already announced in yesterday’s edition, in a few days parking meters will be installed, managed and monitored by three traffic assistants in training. Last evening, in the presence of Councillor Giovanni Venieri and Deputy Mayor Emanuele Giustacchini, the new tariff plan was presented by Councillor Achille Benedetti.

After confirming the expected revenue, already included in the municipal budget, which amounts to at least 1.8 billion lire, Benedetti announced the new rates for car tickets and the discounts provided for employers and their employees. There is no possibility of favors for residents; moreover, (and the municipality’s stance seems defensible) the 145 paid parking spaces are insignificant compared to the high number of residents in the historic center.

Rates and concessions

From February 1st, the hourly parking fee in the parking lots managed directly by the Municipality (a total of 210 compared to 620 managed by Coopsette) will be 1,500 lire from October 1st to March 31st, from 9 am to midnight, and 2,000 lire on Saturdays and Sundays. The rates will change during the tourism season, i.e., from April 1st to September 30th: from Monday to Friday, the fee will be 1,500 lire from 9 am to 8 pm, and three thousand lire from 8 pm to midnight.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the fee will be 2,000 lire per hour from 9 am to 8 pm, and again three thousand lire from 8 pm to midnight. As mentioned, discounts are provided for owners of local businesses, offices, and agencies in the historic center. The minimum subscription for six months will cost 60,000 lire per month, which is two thousand lire per day.

An employed worker, on the other hand, will pay much less: 25,000 lire per month, with the same minimum six-month subscription. Additionally, it will be possible to park your vehicle for just half an hour; in that case, the fee will be just 500 lire.

As Achille Benedetti then noted, nearly 370 parking spaces will be left free near the historic center. To summarize, the paid areas will include via Anelli, Maratona (Navigarda zone and Fraglia vela, excluding the one with 65 spaces near the curve in front of Cariplo), Feltrinelli square, and Cappelletti square (though in the latter, parking has been paid for over a decade). A mayor’s ordinance, soon to be issued, will also set fines for offenders, which are expected to be significant.
