Municipal Feasibility Study Explores New Nursing Home Options
Despite the turbulence of recent days, the municipal administration continues to discuss the nursing home project, this time presenting to the council group leaders and the managers of Zanetti-Cominelli a feasibility study concerning a new public facility, also considering the private proposal for an 18 billion euro structure with 120 beds.
A feasibility study was evaluated, presented by technicians commissioned by the Municipality, which proposes two options. On one side, it is possible to intervene on the current Zanetti-Cominelli location, where, to maintain 73 beds and meet regional standards for decades to come, works worth 8 billion euros would be necessary.
Alternatively, building an entirely new facility at a cost of 11 billion euros, for which the most suitable area appears to be the S. Pietro zone. Naturally, substantial funding must be sought, through Frisl or government grants, to start the works which could be completed in three or four years.
Reactions and Decisions
“We have presented what the technicians considered feasible for an adequate public nursing home in our city,” explains Erminia Biaggi, the social services assessor. “The options on the table are two; the Zanetti council will need to decide, and the municipal executive will also make a decision as soon as possible.”
According to Giovanni Saviola, the only opposition group leader present at the meeting, the preferred hypothesis is a completely new structure, also for the future management of the nursing home.
“For a series of reasons, intervening on the current site in via Garibaldi would be problematic,” comments the Ds representative. “Nevertheless, I have noticed a shift in direction by the municipal administration,” adds Saviola. “The executive now seems willing to contribute to the expenses, even if it cannot support the entire cost. The atmosphere compared to the past is definitely different, and the Zanetti council has also dismissed old hypotheses from the start, such as relocating the elderly outside the historic center.”
