Province Allocates €77M for Road and Wall Repairs After Heavy Rains
They are healing the wounds caused by the recent heavy rains of the past weeks. The first step involved a substantial investment of over 450 million euros along via Lomego, the road leading to the olive grove area overlooking Braile.
A dangerous section of the roadway had been identified as a significant hazard. Efforts have now shifted to the promenade that begins at via Bettinazzi, near piazza Tre Novembre, leading towards Costa and the castle.
Safety Repair Works
Here, a dry stone wall over twenty meters long, four meters high, had collapsed onto the pedestrian path below. Restoration work has proven difficult due to the inaccessibility for mechanical equipment and necessary materials for the site.
To overcome this obstacle, it was deemed necessary to deploy a helicopter to Costa, which was considered essential.
Restoration and Costs
The initial part of the castle promenade, consisting of stairs and stepped pathways, has been leveled with a layer of gravel to facilitate the easy movement of wheelbarrows and other work vehicles. The cost to reinforce and rebuild the wall, which will be supported internally by reinforced concrete, is estimated at around 77 million euros.
The majority of the interventions, such as those on via Lomego, will be covered by the Province, as there is a law that reimburses damages caused by periodic natural calamities.
